by: New American

The implications are mind-blowing.

Kids are being exposed to sexually explicit lessons against the will of their parents. Those who pushed these laws through our Legislature, without parents knowing it, made sure it's illegal for districts to allow an opt-in model." -Rebecca Friedrichs, former public school teacher

California WaterFix Project Not Supported by Trump Administration

Source: Jerry McNerney (D-CA, 9th)

Costume and Party SuperCenter

Washington, D.C. - October 27, 2017 (The Ponder News) -- In response to the Trump administration’s announcement that it would not support the California WaterFix Project, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) issued the following statement:

“Long before this administration weighed in, the controversial tunnels proposal has been based on flawed science and funding assumptions without even achieving water sustainability for the state. Most recently, support has shifted away from the project due to its excessive cost that comes with no assurance of prolonged results. For these reasons, opposition to the tunnels continues to grow.

“There are many viable alternatives and forward-thinking approaches that will modernize our water system. My new legislation, the WEST Act, focuses on these tangible, commonsense solutions, including conservation, efficiency, recycling, and water capture.

“It’s time to change the narrative. The WEST Act is the product of extensive engagement and consultation with a diverse group of stakeholders – including farmers, technology innovators, industry and community leaders – and provides proactive, long-term solutions to California’s water challenges. This legislation offers a path forward for Californians, and I will continue to work with state leaders to find sustainable and achievable water solutions for California.”

GOVERNOR BROWN AND TEXAS GOVERNOR ABBOTT ANNOUNCE FRIENDLY WORLD SERIES WAGER

Source: California Governor's Office

Washington, D.C. - October 25, 2017 (The Ponder News) -- Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. has announced a friendly wager with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on the matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros in the 2017 World Series, which begins tonight.

In the spirit of bi-partisanship and in recognition of the resilience of the communities impacted by the recent wildfires in California and Hurricane Harvey in Texas, the governors are wagering wine, beer and food from businesses in regions impacted by these disasters and encouraging the public to see, taste and experience what their respective states have to offer.

“While we don’t expect to have to send any vino to Texas, we hope travelers from all over the world – yes, even the Lone Star State – will continue to visit California,” said Governor Brown.

Northern California’s wine region has more than 1,200 wineries, and only a handful were heavily damaged or destroyed. Vintners report that 90 percent of this year’s grapes were harvested before the fires and most tasting rooms have reopened.

“Texas and California are recovering from some of the worst natural disasters our states have ever encountered,” said Governor Abbott. “As we work to overcome these challenges, our two states are united by America’s pastime as we cheer on our home teams in the World Series. Go Astros!”

If the Astros win, Governor Brown will send Governor Abbott a selection of wine from wineries in the Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino regions impacted by recent wildfires. If the Dodgers win, Governor Abbott will send Governor Brown a six-pack of Houston-brewed beer and Texas BBQ.

The first game of the best-of-seven World Series will be played tonight at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

California Allows Secession Ballot Initiative To Proceed

Many celebrities in California said that if Trump was elected for president, they would leave the states. Could it be they found a way --at last?

Western Journalism

Californians may soon get the opportunity to vote to secede from the United States.

The state’s attorney general, Xavier Becerra, issued an official ballot measure title on Tuesday allowing CalExit supporters to start gathering the 585,000 signatures needed to place the matter before California voters in 2018, the Associated Press reported.

“The initiative [titled ‘California Autonomy From Federal Government’] would form a commission to recommend avenues for California to pursue its independence and delete part of the state constitution that says it is an inseparable part of the U.S. The measure would also instruct the governor and California congressional delegation to negotiate more autonomy for the state,” according to the AP.

Rep. Pascrell Statement on CBO Score for Senate Health Care Bill
Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ, 9th)
June 26, 2017

"Strike three. After issuing two devastating analyses of two different House bills, today’s nonpartisan CBO analysis found that the Senate bill repealing and ‘replacing’ the Affordable Care Act would cause 22 million Americans to lose their insurance by 2026. The CBO analysis proves that this bill isn’t about making the health care system work better for every day Americans; it’s about giving a massive tax break to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of devastating Medicaid, harming our hospitals and health care providers, and removing important consumer protections for seniors and individuals with pre-existing conditions. I call on Republicans to abandon this harmful bill and instead try to find bipartisan compromise to improve health care for Americans across the board."

CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER ON SUPREME COURT DECISION TO REINSTATE KEY PARTS OF PRESIDENT TRUMP’S TRAVEL BAN
Robert Pittenger (R-NC, 9th)
June 26, 2017

“The Supreme Court today performed a solemn duty too often ignored by lower courts. They issued a ruling based on the law, not on political activism. Ordinary Americans already knew what the Supreme Court today reminded the lower courts: The federal government and the President have responsibility for national security, and a thorough vetting of refugees is part of that responsibility.”

ANTHEM’S RATE INCREASES REINFORCE WHAT HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR YEARS: OBAMACARE IS FAILING AND MAINERS WILL SUFFER IF NOTHING IS DONE
Bruce Poliquin (R-MN, 2nd)
June 26, 2017

“Since ObamaCare was first implemented, Mainers’ premiums and deductibles have skyrocketed. Just last year, the Bangor Daily News reported that ‘average increases for individual plans range from about 14 percent to 24 percent for 2017.’ Insurers—like Anthem—have considered pulling out of the individual market or have already done so, and families have had fewer and fewer health care options,” said Congressman Poliquin. “ObamaCare has been failing for years, as many have warned, impacting tens of thousands of Maine families.

NRA Statement on Peruta v. California
NRA-ILA
June 26, 2017

“We are disappointed in the Court’s rejection of the appeal in Peruta v. California, which now leaves millions of law-abiding Californians with no ability to bear arms outside the home. As Justices Thomas and Gorsuch correctly stated, too many courts have been treating the Second Amendment as a second-class right. That should not be allowed to stand. As the Supreme Court stated in its landmark decision in Heller v. District of Columbia, the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. The framers of our Constitution did not intend to limit that right to the home. We look forward to a future Court affirming that the right to keep and bear arms is as much a part of our Constitution as the other enumerated rights that it protects. We will not stop fighting until a future Court affirms this fundamental right."
