What I have learned from this presidency:

by Shonda Ponder, Editor

Those "rich" Republicans don't own the media. They don't own those giant social media monopolies that censor our freedom of speech. They don't own those giant corporations who are pushing the gay agenda down our throats either. Nor do they own those giant money-hungry organizations that are for selling body parts of aborted fetuses either...or pushing assisted suicide.

Makes me wonder...what DO they own? Obviously the people who claim to be Democrats because Republicans are only out for rich people's benefits own everything and Republicans don't. So, who is out trying to defend the rich?

Makes me wonder.

How is it that a U.S. President who doesn't except a dime from the taxpayers for his work to Make America Great Again can be considered one of those greedy people, I just don't get.

The Reason Donald Trump Rejected the Memo from the Democrats

On Twitter, Trump tweeted:

The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency. Told them to re-do and send back in proper form!

Following news reports that President Trump has blocked the release of the Democratic Memo refuting claims made in the so-called Nunes Memo, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY, 12th) released the following statement:

"After viewing both House Intelligence Committee memos, I can say, without a doubt, that not releasing the Democrats' memo is a great disservice to the American people. While I cannot comment on the details contained in the Democrats' memo because the President has refused to release it, I can say that it eviscerates Mr. Nunes' claims. This politicization of intelligence and quest to discredit the brave men and women of our intelligence and law enforcement communities must stop. Mr. Nunes' and President Trump's behavior are abhorrent and dangerous."

Cornyn: Democrats Attacking Tax Reform Ideas They Once Supported

Washington, D.C. - October 4, 2017 (The Ponder News) -- On the Senate floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) noted Democrats’ hypocrisy when discussing tax reform efforts, highlighting their previous support for elements in the Big Six framework which they are now criticizing. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video of his remarks can be found here.

“You'd think, given their effusive support for tax reform in the past, our Democratic friends would at least wait to review the legislation before they pounce on it.”

“They are already piling on, and spreading misinformation, and assuming the worst because that's the easy and politically expedient thing to do.”

“What's most striking is that the new framework, unveiled by the so-called ‘Big Six,’ shares many of the core features of previous plans that were widely embraced by Democrats.”

“These changes to our tax code used to be noncontroversial, certainly not partisan. So the Big Six plan isn't just similar to the Wyden one, though. It also shares key features with the so-called ‘Simpson-Bowles’ plan from 2010 that not long ago was embraced by a number of Democrats.”

“Our Democratic colleagues used to think these reforms were long overdue, and they were right then, and they are wrong now.”

“Our colleagues from Ohio, Minnesota, and Missouri have all said in recent years that we should lower the corporate tax rate, not because we love corporations, but because we recognize that that provides incentives for them to stay here and invest in jobs and businesses in America, rather than overseas.”

“There is nothing partisan about wanting an updated and more competitive tax code.”

Dems Worried Trump will Pardon Himself

by Shonda Ponder

Of all things for the Democrats to worry about, now they're worried that Trump is going to pardon himself or his family members for something. I don't think President Trump has done anything wrong to pardon himself for, but I guess they think he might. In a press release from Karen Bass (D-CA, 37th), the Democrats have decided to create a resolution that will prevent this from happening.

“Due to the current President’s proven willingness to slander the truth and exploit legal ambiguity for personal gain, we must explicitly forbid the possibility of a pardon for himself or his family,” Rep. Bass said. “Throughout this presidency, I’ve heard from thousands of constituents concerned about pardon power. The recent pardon of Joe Arpaio only amplified those concerns. Millions of Americans face the consequences of their own unlawful actions, and they repay their debt to society. If any president of any party or their family commits federal crimes, benign or extreme, they too must suffer the consequences of their actions. I call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to uphold our civic duty to protect our justice system.”

I think the Democrats need to stop focusing on how much they hate Trump, and start worrying about how they are going to get re-elected. The future doesn't look too bright for them these days, unless they know a bunch of dead Democrats.

DEMOCRATS UNVEIL “A BETTER DEAL” AGENDA FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

Washington, D.C. - July 25, 2017 (The Ponder News) -- Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement on Democrats’ new economic agenda for the American people – A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, Better Future:

“It’s time for us to tackle our toughest challenges with bold solutions.

“That’s why today, Democrats released an economic plan that’s a better deal for the American people. We’re calling for investments in our nation’s infrastructure, in apprenticeship programs that open up access to good paying jobs, and in advanced research to unleash innovation. Americans who work hard and play by the rules shouldn’t be crushed by prescription drug costs, student loan debt, or child care costs.”

“The graduate student who is working two jobs to pay for student loans deserves a better deal. The parent struggling to afford childcare and put food on the table deserves a better deal. The couple that has saved their entire lives for retirement deserves a better deal.

“Democrats are ready to get to work so the American people have an economic future they can count on.”

Grijalva Signs Resolution of "No Confidence" Against Trump, Declares Him "Utterly Unfit" to Serve As President
Raul Grijalva (D-AZ, 3rd)
July 20, 2017

Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) released the following statement after signing a resolution of “no confidence” in Donald Trump’s fitness to serve as President of the United States. Amongst other grievances – including Trump’s suppression of the Press, verbal assaults on women, and violation of the Emoluments Clause - the resolution addresses Trump’s troubling connections to the Russian Government during the 2016 presidential campaign. The resolution also comes after reports that Trump held a secret second meeting with Russian President, Vladimir Putin during the recent G-20 summit as well as new revelations that an eighth person with deep Russian business ties attended the June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian attorney connected to the Kremlin.

There is an old addage that says "If you keep looking for something wrong with someone long enough, you will find it. So, stop the witch hunt and you might gain more confidence. Of course, since he is not a lefty liberal, I'm sure there is nothing you will like about him. You guys have already made it clear that you will not work with anyone who isn't. Personally, I have no confidence in you because of that.

Grothman to Appropriators: Defund Anti-American Area Studies Programs in Higher Education Act
Glenn Grothman (R-WI, 6th)
July 20, 2017

“… at too many Title VI centers across the country, academic diversity is severely lacking, with many centers using the young, malleable minds of college-aged students as a one-sided sounding board for professors’ anti-American and anti-Semitic political agendas. These professor’s significant biases seep into how their students approach their academic course of study and prevent students from being exposed to alternative viewpoints—perspectives that often reflect the positive aspects of long-practiced and accepted American foreign policies and norms.

GUTIÉRREZ REACTS TO SENATE INTRODUCTION OF NEW DREAM ACT
Luis Gutierrez (D-IL, 4th)
July 20, 2017

On Thursday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced a new version of the DREAM Act (an acronym for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors). The President has pledged, through a spokesperson, to fight this bipartisan legislation that would allow immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children to live and work here legally if they meet certain criteria. This happens as the DACA program (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the program that provides temporary deportation relief for Dreamers and allows them to work legally) is under attack by Republican leaders and it is clear the President and his team are unlikely to defend it. This could make the 800,000 people who would qualify for the DREAM Act and who currently have DACA vulnerable to deportation, especially because they have registered with federal authorities as part of the program.

Hartzler Introduces Bill to Protect Subsidized Housing from Smoke Damage
Vicky Hartzler (R-MO, 4th)
July 20, 2017

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) introduced the Smoke Free Affordable Housing Act (HR3322) today to encourage subsidized housing developers to maintain a healthy environment for residents while protecting the subsidized property from expensive smoking related remediation costs. The federal government is investing billions of dollars every year in subsidized housing only to see many properties seriously degraded by smoke damage within only a few years. The Smoke Free Affordable Housing Act would incentivize subsidized housing developers to establish and maintain smoke-free policies to create a healthy environment for residents and protect the investment of hardworking taxpayers.

“The best rice in the world is grown in the heart of Acadiana, with Louisiana rice farmers already contributing more than $700 million to the state’s economic output each year. Expanding rice exports, while ensuring that Louisiana farmers are competing on a level playing field, supports thousands of jobs and generates much-needed economic activity in rice country. I’m glad to see Secretary Perdue and officials at USDA announce the opening of this new market, and I’m confident that Louisiana rice farmers are poised to strengthen our state’s position as one of the world’s leading rice exporters.”

Hill Reaffirms Commitment to Enhancing American Energy Resources
French Hill (R-AR, 2nd)
July 20, 2017

“We’re working hard to implement American energy policies that boost our energy independence, benefit consumers, protect our environment, and preserve our natural resources. The common sense bills we passed this week remove unnecessary red tape and provide flexibility to our states—creating jobs, moving towards energy independence, and promoting a strong national energy policy. Enhancing our energy resources across Arkansas and the nation will greatly increase jobs and benefit hardworking Americans.”
